Summary

A cluster of 8-9 small rectilinear and curvilinear earthworks are visible on aerial photographs on Holt Heath. They range in size from 3m to 6m across and appear to be enclosures and possible shallow workings. The features may be associated with post medieval extraction or early 20th century military activity. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Stour NMP.

Full Description

A cluster of 8-9 small rectilinear and curvilinear earthworks are visible on aerial photographs on Holt Heath (1). They range in size from 3m to 6m across and appear to be enclosures and possible shallow workings. The features may be associated with post medieval extraction or early 20th century military activity. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Stour NMP. The features include a square embanked enclosure 7m across at SU 06719 04095; two rectangular hollows (5m by 3m) with outer banked enclosures at SU 06762 04119 and a cluster of curvilinear features (posssibly impact craters or extractive hollows) at SU 06754 04072.
