A post medieval extractive pit at Corfe Mullen is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1-2).

The feature comprises a lonzenge-shaped pit 67.4m long by 57m wide with a funnelled entrance at its southeast end. A smaller 38.6m by 17.8m linear pit is situated adjacent to the larger pit's west side. The feature is situated on what is still an area of open rough ground by 1948 (2).

The site is under an area of trees and scrubby open ground on current Google Earth imagery and the feature is still visible. It also shows clearly on current Lidar imagery (3). The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
