Full Description
An area of ridged and ditched cultivation marks to the west of Sleight, Corfe Mullen, is very faintly visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The features are faint and distinct but appear to comprise parallel ridges and ditches, possibly slightly curving and located in the northern half of an irregular historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map, whose sinuous boundaries are likely to be medieval in origin (2). The features are presumed to be historic in origin, of medieval to post medieval date, although their precise character and date is unclear.
The site is still open fields on current Google Earth imagery but the features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
