Full Description

A large gravel pit at Corfe Mullen is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).

The gravel pit extends over an area approximately 118m long by 89m wide. It is recorded on the OS 1st Edition map as Corfe Mullen Gravel Pit, where it is shown as a larger feature; already infilled by some housing by 1946 (1-2).

The site is under housing and trees on current Google Earth imagery and the features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
