Full Description
A banked and ditched rectilinear feature at Eye Mead, Pamphill, is visible on aerial photographs and current Lidar imagery (1-2).
The feature comprises a sub-rectilinear banked enclosure 72.2m long by 69m wide. A possible entrance is present at the southeast corner, where the linear boundary bank extends to the east, with a smaller outer bank flanking it. An inner ditch is visible against the west side on current Lidar imagery (2). The feature does not appear to relate to the adjacent historic field boundaries, whose character potentially suggests a medieval origin, although a later date is possible. It may be a small historic enclosure, possibly of post medieval date.
The site is still open fields on current Google Earth imagery. Some of the features are stll faintly visible although theere has been some modeification/loss to the south side due to constrution of a modern drainage channel. The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
