Full Description

An area of ridged and ditched cultivation marks at Corfe Mullen are visible on aerial photographs (1).

The features occupy the northern half of an irregular historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map (2). They are bounded on their south side by a ditched linear field boundary of possible post medieval date, although its slightly sinuous character may indicate an earlier origin. The parallel ridges are slightly offset to the adjacent historic field boundaries and are set approximately 7m apart with a 1.5m - 2m wide ditch in between and may be cultivation marks associated with medieval ridge and furrow, although a later origin is also possible.

The site is still open fields on current Google Earth imagery but with much modern boundary removal. The features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
