Full Description
An area of ditched and ridged cultivation marks to the northwest of Henbury House, Sturminster Marshall, is visible on aerial photographs (1).
The features comprise parallel ridges set approximately 5.5m apart, with a 1.5m ditch in between. The features are situated within the northeast corner of the parkland to the west of Henbury House. They have a slight curve to them, on a west to southeast axis, and are presumed to be historic cultivation marks, possibly those of medieval ridge and furrow.
The site is still open fields on Google Earth imagery but the features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted from 1940s aerial photographs by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
