Full Description

A banked linear feature to the southwest of Parley Court Farm, Hurn, is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).

The feature is narrow and rectilinear in form. It is situated 48m to the south of a small recilinear enclosure in the northwest corner of a large irregular historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map whose character suggests a probable medieval origin (2). The smaller enclosure also features on the OS 1st Edition map and this may be later, possibly post medieval in origin, judging by the more rgular form of its eastern and southern boundaries (2).

The feature is presumed to also be a historic field boundary of probable post medieval origin, although an earlier date for this is also possible.

The site is still open fields on current Google Earth imagery but the feature is no longer visible. It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
