Full Description
Ditched and banked linear features at West Parley are visible on aerial photographs and current Lidar imagery (1 -3).
The features are narrow and rectilinear in form. They sub-divide irregular historic enclosures recorded on the OS 1st Edition map whose character suggest a possible medieval origin, probably with some later post medieval re-organisation and sub-division (4). The features are presumed to also be historic field boundaries of probable post medieval origin, although an earlier date for these is also possible.
The site is still predominantly open fields on current Google Earth imagery but with some modern boundary change and addition of modern Solar farm. The features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
