A possible post medieval extractive pit on Parley Common is visible as a long shallow irregular depression on 1940s aerial photographs (1).

The feature is up to 122m long by up to 50m wide. It appears partially water-filled in 1947 (1). Whilst it may be a shallow extractive pit it may alternatively be natural in origin.

The site is open common on current Google Earth imagery although under low scrub and partial tree cover. The feature is no longer visible. It was digitally plotted from 1940s aerial photographs by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
