Full Description
A possible post medieval extractive pit on Parley Common is visible as a long shallow irregular depression on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The feature is up to 235m long by up to 72m wide, forming a long sinuous and irregular hollow that is partly water-filled in 1947 (1). Whilst it may be a post medieval extractive pit assoociated with shallow surface extraction, it may alternatively be natural, or partly natural in origin.
The site is part of Ferndown Golf Course and partly under trees on current Google Earth imagery. The feature is no longer visible. It was digitally plotted from 1940s aerial photographs by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
