Summary

An irregular scarped feature at Parley is visible on 1940s aerial photographs. The feature is presumed to be a post medieval extractive pit. It is situated adjacent to the southeast side of Parley Barrow (MDO6228), possibly slightly truncating the outer ditch of the barrow on its southeast side. The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Full Description

An irregular scarped feature at Parley is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).

The feature comprises a shallow irregular 42.4m by 13.3m depression adjacent to the southeast side of Parley Barrow (MDO6228), possibly slightly truncating the outer ditch of the barrow on its southeast side. The feature is presumed to be a post medieval extractive pit.

The site is under a section of road on current Google Earth imagery and the feature is no longer visible. It was digitally plotted from aerial photographs by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
