Full Description
An area of ridged and ditched cultivation marks to the northwest of Kinson Manor Farm is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The features comprise parallel regular ridges spaced approximately 4.4m apart with 1.3m wide ditches in between. The features occupy the majority of an irregular historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map, bordered on its northern side by a historic watercourse, possibly natural, possibly a post medieval drain (2). It is not clear from the aerial photographs but a post medieval drainage system within the same enclosure (MDO41360) may post-date the features; the deeply incised ditches appear to cut the features in some places but in others there are faint marks crossing the ditches that may reflect the reverse (1).
The features may be those of post medieval narrow ridge and furrow.
The site is still field on Google Earth imagery but the features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted from 1940s aerial photographs by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
