Monument record MDO41355 - Possible medieval field boundary, Longham Bridge, Bournemouth

A ditched curvilinear feature at Longham Bridge is visible on 1940s aerial photographs. The feature may be a historic field boundary, possibly medieval in origin. It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

A ditched curvilinear feature at Longham Bridge is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).

The feature is narow and curvilinear in form. It sub-divides an irregular historic enclosure on the southern bank of the River Stour, some of whose historic boundaries may be medieval in origin (2). The curvilinear form of the feature also suggests a possible historic field boundary of potentially medieval date,a lthough a later origin is also possible.

The site is under rough ground and low scrub on Google Earth imagery but the feature is stlll partially visible. It was digitally plotted from 1940s aerial photographs by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
