Full Description

A banked curvilinear feature at Longham is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1 and 2).

The feature occupies a small outward curve of land on the north bank of the River Stour, extending between the river bank to the southwest and a possible post medieval field boundary and drainage ditch to the northeast. The broad curvilinear character of the feature suggests a possible historic field boundary, possibly of medieval date, or alternatively, a historic boundary bank associated with flood defences.

The site is part of Dudsbury Golf Course on current Google Earth imagery and the feature is no longer visible. It was digitally plotted from 1940s aerial photographs by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
