Full Description
A ditched linear feature at Longham is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The feature is narrow and rectilinear in form. It runs on a broadly northeast to southwest axis across a historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map but which may have been sub-divided prior to the late 19th Century as part of the line of this feature is marked by a short row of trees on the OS 1st Edition map, indicating a removed historic field boundary (2). The character of the feature suggests a historic field boundary of probable post medieval date, although an earlier origin is also possible.
The site is part of Dudsbury Golf Course on current Google Earth imagery and the feature is no longer visible. It was digitally plotted from 1940s aerial photographs by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
