Full Description

A ditched hollow feature in Holmwood Park is visible on 1940s aerial photographs and current Lidar imagery (1 and 2).

The feature comprises an elliptical hollow 42m long by 25m wide. Current Lidar imagery suggests the feature may cut an older feature, probably a historic field boundary (MDO41325) of medieval or earlier date; there is a hint of a former ditch running along the north side of the feature (2).

The feature may be a post medieval extractive pit but may alternatively be a post medieval garden feature or pond.

The site is under new housing construction on current Google Earth imagery; the feature is visible on the most current Lidar imagery, which pre-dates the latest Google Earth imagery. The feature was digitally plotted from current Lidar imagery by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
