Full Description
An area of post medieval extraction on heathland to the west of West Parley is visible on aerial photographs and current Lidar imagery (1 and 2).
The features comprise two irregular extractive pits situated adjacent to each other; the westernmost of these is the smaller at 30m by 23.5m, the easternmost being larger at 51m by 41m. Situated 20m to the east of these are two smaller depressions, visible on Lidar imagery, that mayu also be post medieval extractive pit; the larger of these is 12.25m by 12.2m, the smaller 6.6m in diameter.
The site is under scrub and trees on current Google Earth imagery but the larger two pits are visible as water-filled ponds. The featureswere digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
