Full Description
A post medieval extractive pit on heathland to the west of West Parley is visible on current Lidar imagery (1).
The pit is irregular in form and up to 92.5m long by up to 86m wide. It is recorded as an old clay pit on the OS 1 st Edition map; the extent of extraction appears greater on current Lidar imagery than indicated on the 1st Edition map, suggesting it may still have seen use post late 19th Century (2).
The site is under trees on current Google Earth imagery, although clearly visible on current Lidar imagery (1). The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
