Full Description
An extensive area of shallow post medieval extraction on heathland to the west of West Parley is visible on 1940s aerial photographs and current Lidar imagery (1 and 2)
The area of extraction extends to 367m by 121m and is characteristically surface extraction with several deeper scarped depressions within this. One of these deeper depressions in the west of the area may encroach into the west side of a Bronze Age bowl barrow (MDO5687).
The site is largely under trees on current Google Earth imagery, with some modern housing development along the west side of Ringwood Road. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
