Full Description

A series of ditched linear features to the north of Coneygar Farm are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).

The features comprise a series of interlinking linear ditches extending across an area of land recorded as rough ground and woodland on the OS 1st Edition map and possibly enclosed during the later 19th to early 20th Century (see MDO41296) (2). The features correspond with field boundaries also visible on 1940s aerial photographs, mirroring the pattern of enclosure and linked to a series of parallel ditches that offset the main ditched linears within each of the small enclosures. The features are presumed to be post medieval drainage ditches, some of which may have dually functioned as field boundaries.

The site is still fields on current Google Earth imagery and the features are still visible in places. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
