Full Description
Ditched and banked linear features to the north of Coneygar Farm are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1 and 2).
The features are predominantly narrow and rectilinear in form and they form a series of partial enclosures within Big Copse and on the northeast edges of Big Copse; the edges of historic enclosure as recorded on the OS 1st Edition map and showing as still an area of rough ground and woodland at this time, with a strip of probable post medieval enclosure to the north, on the south side of Sandy Lane (3). The features correspond with the historic pattern of enclosure and align with many of the adjacent historic field boundaries. They are considered likely to also be historic field boundaries, probably of post medieval to perhaps early 20th Century origin.
The site is still partly plantation and partly open fields on current Google Earth imagery. Some, but not all, features are still visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
