Full Description
A scarped linear feature to the northeast of Knighton House is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The feature comprises a linear scarp around 203m long, aligned broadly southwest to northeast with a curve round to the southeast at its northeast end and a regular dogleg half way along its length, possibly the result of deliberate cutting. A small sub-oval 15.8m by 9.8m depression is present at its far southeast end. The feature may be a terrace formed through post medieval gravel extraction; there are further similar features along this section of the River Stour. The feature potentially truncates a post medieval drainage channel (MDO41258), suggesting it post-dates this feature.
The site is still open ground on current Google Earth imagery. The feature is still partly visible, particularly in 2012 (3). It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
