Full Description
Banked and ditched linear features on the northeast side of Knighton Heath are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The features are narrow in form and appear to comprise a low banked linear earthwork with a corresponding ditch along part of its south side. The banked linear curves around to the south then east to partly enclose an area of ground around 32m across before turning north to meet with a further ditched linear that extends east to meet with a historic field boundary of probable post medieval to early 20th Century origin (1). There is no obvious correlation between the features and the pattern of historic enclosure to the north or south, as indicated on the OS 1st Edition map but it is considered likely that the features may also be historic field boundaries of probable post medieval to early 20th Century date (2). Alternatively they could be, or perhaps include, historic trackways of similar origin.
The site is under modern housing development on current Google Earth imagery. The features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP
