A large post medieval to possible early 20th century gravel pit at West Howe is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The features comprise a shallow scarped depresssion of ground around 100m by 92m, this containing several roofed structures within it (1). Linear scarps with clean cut edges extend northeast and northwest from this. Two smaller ditched hollows 40m by 32m and 31m by up to 9m on the southwest and west edges of the site are also visible.
The site is under modern housing development on current Google Earth imagery. The features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP
