Full Description
A group of small ditched sub-circular ditched features on Canford Heath are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The features comprise loose clusters of small irregular pits situated closely adjacent to each other on plateaux of level ground interspersed by vehicular trackways. The pits are around 1m to 1.5m across, some with surrounding upcast bank material. The features may be small post medieval extractive pits but may alternatively be dug-outs or weapons pits associated with wartime military activity on the heath.
The site is open heath and scrub vegetation on current Google Earth imagery; the features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
