Full Description
A loose grouping of irregular ditched and banked features on Dunyeat's Hill are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The features comprise a 7.8m by 4m sub-rectangular pit, several cresecent-shaped banks between 5.5m and 20m in length, and two banked sub-circular earthworks with central ditched hollows between 1.5m and 3m in diameter.
The features are situated close to an area of post medieval extraction (MDO41199) and may be small pits and spoil heaps associated with this, although it is possible they are alternatively military in origin, perhaps trenches or weapons pits associated with wartime military training on the heath.
The site is open heath on current Google Earth imagery but the features are not visible under vegetation. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
