Monument record MDO41198 - Probable post medieval extractive pits, Dunyeat's Hill, Poole

A cluster of small sub-circular pits on Dunyeat's Hill are visible on 1940s aerial photographs. The features are presumed to be small post medieval extractive pits although it is possible they are alternatively military in origin, perhaps associated with wartime military training on the heath. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

The features comprise a loosely grouped cluster of around four (visible) small pits of sub-circular and sub-oval form, around 3m to 4m long and between 2m and 4mwide. The features are considered likely to be small post medieval extractive pits but it is also possible these are military in origin, possibly foxholes or weapons pits associated with wartime military training on the heath.

The site is open heath on current Google Earth imagery. The features are still visible in places under vegetation. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
