Full Description
Banked linear features on the open heath to the south of Canford Magna are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The features are located on open heath but within an area recorded as fir plantation on the OS 1st Edition map (2). The features comprise a series of rectlinear and curvilinear banks that interlink and form partial irregular enclosures. They respect adjacent historic field boundaries shown on the OS 1st Edition map and may themselves be historic field boundaries of possible post medieval to perhaps early 20th century date.
The majority of the site is still open heath on current Google Earth imagery and the features are still faintly visible in places. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
