Full Description
Linear ditched features on Canford Heath are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The features comprise long narrow interlinking ditches in loose zig-zag formation that are presumed to be probable practice trenches of probable World War Two date. They are closely assoicated with a loose grouping of sub-circular earthworks, also probably military in origin (MDO41167). The features may be associated with a wider area of probable wartime military training activity on this area of the heath.
The site is still open heath on current Google Earth imagery and the features are still visible. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
