Full Description
A post medieval extractive pit at Bearwood is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The feature comprises a large irregular scarped pit up to 45m by 50m in size, with several small shallow pits and scrapes flanking this to the southwest and northeast. The heathland on which the features are situated in 1945 (part of Knighton Heath) is typically scarred by widescale post medieval extraction, which is characteristically shallow but with some areas of deeper extraction also present.
The site is within fields on the edge of modern housing development on current Google Earth imagery but the features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
