Full Description
Ditched and banked linear features to the northwest of BEarwood are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1 and 2). The features are presumed to be historic field boundaries of probable post medieval date.
The features are narrow and rectilinear in form and they sub-divide historic enclosures recorded on the OS 1st Edition map whose slightly sinuous boundaries may be medieval in origin; the removal of some former historic boundaries within these enclosures is indicated by two sinous rows of trees, which are clearly truncated on the OS 1st Edition map (2).
The features may also be historic field boundaries but their rectilinear form suggests a probable post medieval, or possible early modern, date.
The site is redeveloped as part of Bearwood School playing fields on current Google Earth imagery and the features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
