Full Description
A post medieval extractive pit to the south of Stoats Hill is visible on current Lidar imagery (1).
The feature comprises an irregular scarped depression up to 78m long by up to 53m wide. It is recorded as 'old gravel pit' on the OS 1st Edition map, although its current extent appears much greater than by the late 19th century (around 21m by 16m), suggesting probable modern re-use (2).
The site is under tree cover in 1946 (3) and is still below trees on current Google Earth imagery. The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
