Full Description
An irregular scarped hollow at Canford Magna is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The feature is irregular in shape and up to 37.5m long by up to 21m deep. It is situated within a historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map where it is in a clearing surrounded by trees with springs to the south (2). The trees are still present in 1946. A similar feature is situated 86m to the east within the same field (MDO41120).
The feature is presumed to be an extractive pit of probable post medieval origin.
The site is developed as housing on current Google Earth imagery and the features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
