Full Description
A ditched linear feature in a field to the southwest of Merley Park is visible on aerial photographs (1).
The feature is narrow and rectilinear in form. It sub-divides a large irregular historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map whose sinuous boundaries are probably medieval in origin. It adjoins a rectilinear historic field boundary to the east that is also recorded on the OS 1st Edition map and is probably part of a phase of post medival re-organisation (2). A later, probably early 20th century, field boundary adjoins the feature at its west end (1).
The feature is presumed to be a historic field boundary of probable post medieval date.
The site is still fields on current Google Earth imagery and the feature is still visible. It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
