Monument record MDO41104 - Post medieval narrow ridge and furrow, Ashington, Poole

Two areas of ridged and ditched cultivation marks to the southwest of Ashington is visible on aerial photographs. The features may be those of post medieval narrow ridge and furrow, possibly derivingfrom late 19th century steam ploughing.They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Two areas of ridged and ditched cultivation marks to the southwest of Ashington is visible on aerial photographs (1 and 2).

The features comprise parallel ridges set around 3m apart with 1m wide ditches in between. They extend across two historic fields with sinuous boundaries of possible medieval origin.

The form of the features suggest possible post medieval narrow ridge and furrow, possibly deriving from late 19th century steam ploughing, given the narrow distance between ridges.

The site is still fields on current Google Earth imagery but the features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
