Monument record MDO41102 - Possible post medieval narrow ridge and furrow, Merley Hall Farm, Poole

An area of ridged and ditched cultivation marks to the southwest of Merley Hall Farm is visible on aerial photographs. The features may be those of post medieval narrow ridge and furrow, although an earlier origin is also possible.They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

An area of ridged and ditched cultivation marks to the southwest of Merley Hall Farm is visible on aerial photographs (1 and 2).

The features comprise parallel ridges set around 4m apart with 1m wide ditches in between. They occupy a raised area of ground within part of an irregular historic enclosure but their extent is not well-defined in 1951 (1 and 2).

The features may be those of post medieval narrow ridge and furrow, although they may alternatively be cultivation marks of earlier origin.

The site is still fields on current Google Earth imagery but with recent vegetation and tree cover. The features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
