Full Description
Banked linear features to the southeast of Ashington are visible on aerial photographs (1).
The features are narrow and rectilinear in form. They sub-divide a long narrow and irregular historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map, which may be medieval in origin but with some post medieval re-organisation (2). The features align with adjacent rectilinear field boundaries that are probably post medieval in date (2).
The features may also be historic field boundaries of possible post medieval date, although an earlier origin is possible.
The site is still fields on current Google Earth imagery but with some much recent boundary change (since 1970). The features are still faintly visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
