Monument record MDO41096 - Possible medieval field boundaries, Merley, Poole

Banked linear features to the northwest of Merley Park are visible on current Lidar imagery. The features may be historic field boundaries of possible medieval origin. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Banked linear features to the northwest of Merley Park are visible on current Lidar imagery (1 and 2).

The features are situated within an area of former open parkland associated with Merley Park, which probably saw phases of enclosure during te medieval and post medieval periods - as indicated by the differing character of internal historic field boundaries recorded on the OS 1st Edition map (3). They are broad and slightly curvilinear in form and appear to underlie later field boundaries of possible post medieval date (MDO41095).

The features may be historic field boundaries of possible medieval date. They broadly correspond with the pattern of adjacent historic field boundaries recorded on the OS 1st Edition map, also of probable medieval origin (3).

The site is still fields on current Google Earth imagery. The features are visible in 2012 (4). They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
