Full Description
Areas of ridged and ditched cultivation marks to the west of Canford Magna are faintly visible on aerial photographs (1).
The features are very indistinct but appear to comprise ridges set between 5 and 9m apart with 1.5m wide ditches in between. It is not clear how the areas of cultivation correspond with former histric field boundaries (MDO41084) also visible on aerial photographs. The features may be those of medieval ridge and furrow but alternatively may be cultivation marks of later origin.
The site is still open ground on current Google Earth imagery, with some modern boundary changes and cut by the A31 Wimborne bypass . The features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
