Full Description
Banked linear features to the west of Hampreston are visible on aerial photographs and current Lidar imagery (1 and 2).
The features comprise interlinked rectilinear banks set parallel and perpendicular to each other to form a series of rectilinear enclosures within two larger historic enclosures recorded on the OS 1st Edition map (3). One of the banked features corresponds with the historic field boundary dividing the two larger enclosures and the remaining features align with this. The features appear to be overlain by later historic field boundaries at their eastern end (MDO41279).
The features are considered likely to be historic field boundaries of possible post medieval date, although an earlier origin is also possible.
The site is still partially open ground on current Google Earth imagery, with some evidence of modern boundary changes. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
