Full Description

Curvilinear banked and ditched features to the north of Oakley are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).

The features comprises two sections of curvilinear bank with a corresponding ditch along their north sides. The features form a semi-circle and are situated either side of a historic field boundary recorded on the OS 1st Edition map; the field boundary appears to have dually functioned as a drainage channel. It is not clear but the features appear to be cut by the boundary rather than being formed either side of it, although this is possible. The features abut a historic trackway on their south side.

The features may be a historic field boundary, possibly of medieval date but a later origin is possible. Alternatively they may be drainage features of post medieval origin.

The site is still open ground on current Google Earth imagery and traces of the features are still visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
