Summary

A circular water container on the south side of Cemetery Road, Wimborne Minster, is visible on 1940s aerial photographs. The feature is considered likely to be a wartime water storage tank for use against incendiary attacks. The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Full Description

A circular water container on the south side of Cemetery Road, Wimborne Minster, is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).

The container is 12m in diamater and surrounded by a 2m wide bank or path. It is located on open ground to the northeast of housing on the south side of Cemetery Road.
The feature is considered likely to be a wartime water tank for storing water and for use in the case of bombing raids or incendiary attacks.

The site is a sports ground on current Google Earth imagery but the feature is no longer visible. It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
