Summary

A line of anti tank cubes to the northwest of Canford Bridge, Wimborne Minster, is visible on 1940's aerial photographs. The features are positioned on the northwest side of Canford Bridge, enclosing a piece of open ground and former fording place on the east bank of the River Stour. The features may have formed part of a wartime defence line; additional rows of anti tank cubes are visible to the north and northwest. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Full Description

A line of anti tank cubes to the northwest of Canford Bridge, Wimborne Minster, is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).

The features comprise a 71m line of anti tank cubes positioned on the northwest side of Canford Bridge, enclosing a piece of open ground and former fording place on the east bank of the River Stour. The features may have formed part of a wartime defence line; additional rows of anti tank cubes are visible to the north and northwest (see MDOs 41027-30 and 41032-3)

The site is still open ground on current Google Earth imagery but the features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
