Full Description
Ditched linear features in a field to the east of Woodcutts Farm Cottages are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (1).
The features comprise two groups of interlinking sections of curvilinear ditches that potentially form a series of small irregular enclosures; one group towards the east side of the field, one towards the west. One larger and more complete sub-circular ditched enclosure is also visible within the group on the east side of the field and the adjacent linear ditches appear to closely respect this. The eatures are set against a background of lighter cropmarking, possibly indicating an underlying geology of raised gravel islands.
The features may be field boundaries, enclosures and/or trackways associated with a possible late prehistoric field system of possible Iron Age or Romano-British date, although an earlier origin may also be possible.
The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
