Full Description

An area of ridged and citched cultivation marks in a field to the north of Holt Green Farm is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).

The featuers comprise narrow parallel ridges set around 4.5m to 5m apart with 1m to 1.5m wide ditches in between. They occupy a historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map, whose predominantly regular field boundaries indicate a possible post medieval origin (2). The area of cultivation is bounded on its northwest side by a former historic field boundary (MDO40968) plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project, also of probable post medieval date.

The features may be those of post medieval narrow ridge and furrow, although an earlier origin is possible.

The site is still fields on current Google Earth imagery but under ploughing and cropping. The features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
