Full Description
Ditched and banked curvilinear features to the northeast of Petersham Farm are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The features are poorly defined but appear to comprise an 89m section of curvilinear ditch and a 62m section of a possible bank. These features are locatated within a large irregular historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map, whose boundaries may be predominantly medieval in origin (2). The curvilinear ditch runs broadly parallel to one of the northern boundary lines of the enclosure on a curving northwest to southeast axis (1). The linear bank runs parallel to a northeast boundary line, also on a northwest to southeast axis (1).
The features may be historic field boundaries of possible medieval date, although they may alternatively be geological in origin.
The site is still fields on current Google Earth imagery, but with significant historic boundary removal. The features are faintly visible in the year 2014 (3). They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
