Full Description
Ditched and banked linear features to the north of Lodge Copse are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The features comprise broad curvilinear banks with a corresponding curvilinear ditch along their south side. The features are situated within an irregular historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map and align with adjacent historic field boundaries, also on the 1st Edition map and potentially medieval in origin, given their curvilinear form (2). The features may originally have been part of one coherent feature, subsequently broken by a later field boundary or drainage channel of possible post medieval date; also present on the OS 1st Edition map (2).
The features may continue into the field to the east as a short ditched linear (1). They may be sections of an historic field boundary of possible medieval date.
The site is still fields on current Google Earth imagery. The features are possibly visible in 2009 (3). They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
