Full Description
Ditched curvilinear features in a field to the south of Parsonage Farm are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The features are narrow and curvilinear in form and are set broadly parallel to each other 6m to 10m apart on an east to west axis. They occupy a narrow irregular historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map and whose boundaries are likely to be predominantly medieval in origin (2). The features align with the north and south boundaries of this enclosure (1 and 2).
The features may be historic field boundaries of possible medieval origin, perhaps those of former medieval strip field, or alternatively may be cultivation marks associated with medieval ridge and furrow.
The site is still fields on current Google Earth imagery;some features are faintly visible in 2009 and 2014 (3 and 4). They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
