Full Description
Banked linear features within White Sheet Plantation are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The features are situated within an area of historic plantation recorded on the OS 1st Edition map but do not obviously correspond or align with any historic enclosure boundaries (2).The features are narrow and broadly rectilinear in form; one exception is distinctly curvilinear in form but this feature appears to cross over a fire break present in 1947 but not shown on the OS 1st Edition map (1). This suggests it is post late 19th century in date.
The features may be historic field boundaries or plantation boundaries of post medieval date, although a later, perhaps late 19th or early 20th century, origin is also possible.
The site remains plantation on current Google Earth imagery. The features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
